    Carbon Reduction Plan

    Commitment to achieving Net Zero

    Introduction

We are London Laboratory Equipment Ltd, a small company based in London, England. Established in 2018, we are dedicated importers and distributors of high-quality laboratory products and equipment. In addition to distributing leading third-party brands like Marienfeld Germany, and Amcor Parafilm M, we also supply our own ranges of laboratory glassware, pipettes, and other essential laboratory products under our LaboQuip and LabPath registered brands.

We strive to minimise our carbon footprint and work to reduce waste in our operations where possible, maintaining an ethical and sustainable business model. Recognising the pressing need for sustainability, London Laboratory Equipment is dedicated to achieving net zero emissions by 2050 or earlier.

This carbon reduction plan outlines our baseline emissions, reduction targets, and specific initiatives we will undertake to steadily decrease our environmental impact over the next few years. We have already taken many steps in moving towards this goal and will put more effort and implement more strategies as we grow.

    Baseline Emissions Footprint

Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured.

    Baseline Year: 2023 (01/01/2023- 31/12/2023)
Additional Details relating to the Baseline Emissions calculations.
As a SME, London Laboratory Equipment LTD maintains a very low baseline carbon footprint. Our business activities focus primarily on import, retail, and distribution of laboratory equipment including laboratory glassware, microscopes, digital cameras, liquid handling devices, and laboratory consumables.

Our offices and storage warehouse runs exclusively on electricity and does not rely on fossil fuel-based heating at our facilities.

For our baseline year of 2023, our Scope 1 emissions were calculated by our total electricity consumption of 295 kWh and our packaging materials which are 95% recyclable, with 0.008tCO2e.

    Baseline year emissions: TOTAL (tCO2e)
    Scope 1 0.155
    Scope 2 0.029
Scope 3 (Included Sources) Upstream transportation and distribution: Not quantified yet. This may be something we aim to measure in the future. Also, we use mainly DSV as our international transport company.
Waste generated: <0.029 (based on information provided by Princess Court management (2%), where they use Albion Waste)
Business travel: <2 (Using public transportation)
Employee commuting: <2(We have only 1 employee)
Downstream Transportation or distribution: <2 (We mainly use DHL as our courier, and they are committed to Net Zero)
    Total Emissions 6.213

    Current Emissions Reporting

    Reporting Year: 2024

    Emissions reduction targets

To continue our progress towards achieving net zero, London Laboratory Equipment Ltd has adopted the following carbon reduction targets:

We have already taken several steps to minimise our carbon emissions, including:

    1. Opting for sustainable couriers like DHL for most deliveries, which utilises 86% of its energy from renewable sources and is working to have 60% of its fleet as electric vehicles by 2030.
    2. Using packaging that is recyclable and made from recycled materials where possible to minimise emissions and waste.
    3. Minimising the use of plastics in our packaging where possible, recognising that as a supplier of glassware, some plastic usage is inevitable such as bubble wrap and packaging pillows. But we opt for recycled materials where possible.
    4. Encouraging our employees to travel to the office by public transport, given our London location.
    5. Switching from plastic to recyclable tapes for our packaging.
    6. Utilising Microsoft Teams for virtual meetings to reduce the need for business travel.
    7. Enabling employees to work remotely where necessary or possible.
    8. Testing returned products where feasible, rather than disposing of them, to extend their useful life.

We project that our carbon emissions will decrease over the next five years to 4.99 tCO2e

by 2029, which represents a reduction of 16.94% from our figures for 2024. Progress against these targets can be seen in the graph below:

Figure 1: Shows the estimated and actual carbon reduction over 2023-2029.

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been completed in accordance with the requirements of PPN 06/21 and the associated guidance and reporting standards for Carbon Reduction Plans.

The emissions reported within this plan have been calculated and recorded in line with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans, as well as the GHG Reporting Protocol corporate standard 1. We have utilised the appropriate Government emission conversion factors for greenhouse gas company reporting 2. in our calculations.
Both our Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions have been reported in accordance with the Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR) requirements. Additionally, we have included the required subset of Scope 3 emissions in line with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) standard 3.

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been reviewed and formally signed off by the board of directors.
